Death in Detention Chapter 1001

Immigrants dying in detention is not really news anymore.  But here is another case worth paying attention to.  This article (Download terminal_island_pdf1.pdf), which will be published this week in the September issue of Los Angeles Magazine, gives a new meaning to Terminal Island, an island in Los Angeles harbor that is now the site of an immigration detention facility.  It is about a transgender immigrant who died in custody of Immigrant and Customs Enforcement, which delayed her AIDS medication. She was in such pain that fellow detainees went on strike. Vut that was not enough to save her.
