Extortion Scheme Targeting Immigrants

Immigrants in Arizona are increasingly being singled out by a so-called virtual kidnapping extortion scheme in which criminals falsely claim to have caught their loved ones as they tried to sneak across the border with Mexico. This is a very common scheme in Latin America, but what complicates it here is that many of the victims are afraid to call the police in light of the underlying immigration violation.
