Cheney, Gonzales Indicted?

THA225pxalberto_gonzales__official_doj 225pxrichard_cheney_2005_official_pAP has reported on a case that is nothing less than bizarre from South Texas.  Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales have been “indicted” on state charges involving alleged abuse of prisoners in federal prisons. Although it has been made public, the indictment has not yet been signed by the presiding judge. According to AP, “Cheney is charged with engaging in an organized criminal activity related to the vice president’s investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds financial interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers.”

For more on this story, see here.

I cannot tell from the news reports (and I have not seen the indictment) but it would not be surprising (given the location of the “prisons”) if the detention facilities detained immigrants.  This article (THANKS CAPPY WHITE!) offers some background on the federal prison industry in Willacy County and states that ICE detainees are held there.  See also this article.

It is hard seeing this case going anywhere.  The case to nowhere?
