Mixed Status Families Look to Obama
The Washington Post has a story about how mixed status families — those with both citizen and undocumented members — are hoping for President Elect Obama to look out for them through, among other things, immigration reform.
In August 2006, Elvira Arellano, the single mother of a U.S.-born son, defied a deportation order and took refuge in a Chicago church for a year (where Senator Obama talked with her) until she was arrested in Los Angeles. She now lives in Mexico with her son and continues to lobby for immigration reform.
