Today, reporters Ryan Gabrielson and Paul Giblin of the East Valley Tribune in Mesa, Arizona (Giblin is now with the Arizona Guardian) were awarded a Pulitzer Prize for their local reporting on Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a frequent subject of commentary on this blog.  . Over the past several years, “Sheriff Joe” has transformed his police department into an immigration-enforcement agency — running up costs, conducting large-scale neighborhood sweeps, and neglecting other crime-fighting activities.
