More on the Fugees
We previously reported on the Fugees, not to be confused with a rhythm and blues band. The Fugees, a boys soccer team composed of refugees from war torn countres now based in Clarkston, Georgia, are given book-length treatment in OUTCASTS UNITED A Refugee Soccer Team, an American Town, by NY Times writer Warren St. John. For a review, click here.
St. John builds on his 2007 New York Times article about the Fugees. Led by the founder and coach Luma Mufleh, a Jordanian graduate of Smith, the players are from Africa, the Balkans and the Middle East. The challenges they face are many, including learning the ways of the United States. Despite the challenges, the Fugees are a rocking soccer team!
