Time for a National Worker ID Card?

There has been considerable press on the trial balloon of Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), who has immigration reform on his plate, of the equivalent of a national identification card for all workers as part of immigration reform. In the past, civil libertarians opposed anything resembling a national identification card.  We will see where the Schumer proposal goes but it will be interesting to see how the debate shapes up.
