Tough Times for the Next Generation

N.C. Aizenman of the  Washington Post reports on the economic struggles of the second generation U.S.-born children of Latino immigrants.  This is an important issue as the offspring of Latino immigrants make up one of every ten children in the United States

The book Just Like Us The True Story of Four Mexican Girls Coming of Age in America By Helen Thorpe raises similar deeply troubling issues.  I am in the middle of this thought-provoking book, which is about a group of friends, some with immigration papers, some not, as they seek to begin the journey through college.
