Crisis in Haiti

The editors of the ImmigrationProf Blog would like to extend our sincerest sympathy to Haitians who are suffering as a result of the devasting earthquake that has hit the nation. Those of us in the field of immigrant and refugee rights know all too well the social, political, and economic hardships that Haitians have suffered over the last several decades. We are, unfortunately, also reminded of our nation’s poor record of recognizing the validity of asylum and refugee claims that have been made by Haitians who have reached our shores. Think only of Haitian Refugee Center v. Smith andHaitian Refugee Center v. Gracey. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and with your Haitian American relatives in the U.S.
