Immigrants’ List is pleased to recognize Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) with the Michael Maggio Award, which is conferred annually on a member of Congress who evidences by words or deeds a firm commitment to advancing the interests of immigrants. Sen. Menendez is the leading proponent in the Senate for comprehensive immigration reform, having introduced the most recent comprehensive immigration reform legislation in the chamber in October 2010. The bill, co-sponsored by Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT), aimed at addressing the longstanding broken immigration system with smart and fair measures. Furthermore, the son of Cuban immigrants, Sen. Menendez has worked tirelessly throughout his career to combat anti-immigrant rhetoric.The Michael Maggio Award honors the memory of the nationally recognized immigration lawyer who was one of the founders of Immigrants’ List.
