The Torture Apologists
It didn’t take long for torture supporters to use the death of Osama Bin Laden as a pretext for defending illegal and immoral interrogation techniques. The media, to its credit, gave ample opportunity for human rights activists to respond to these assertions.
Less visible, however, has been the voice of torture survivors. In her Huffington Post opinion piece, Program for Torture Victims Executive Director Julie Gutman shares the perspective of Abdoulaye, a torture victim from the Ivory Coast. “When Americans defend torture, it is a very sad day for humanity,” says Abdoulaye.
