Muslims Rally for Inclusion in Missouri
From the Missouri Immigrant and Refugee Advocates:
Missouri Muslims to Rally Tuesday at State Capitol
Rally participants seek more welcoming, respectful Missouri for all residents
On Tuesday, March 6, more than 400 members of the immigrant, Muslim and allied communities from around the Missouri will gather in Jefferson City to stand up for the rights of immigrants and Muslims.
This year, the annual Immigration Advocacy Day, hosted by Missouri Immigrant and Refugee Advocates (MIRA), and Muslim Lobby Day, hosted by the ACLU and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), will hold a joint rally on the steps of the Missouri Capitol to speak out against legislation aimed at oppressing our communities, and to work towards a more welcoming, respectful Missouri for all residents.
“For too long, we have been held in the shadows while decision makers consider legislation that will direly impact our lives and families,” said MIRA Executive Director, Vanessa Crawford. “Through our extraordinary presence in the Capitol Tuesday, we hope to foster a better understanding of our communities, and to positively impact the anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim sentiment that has permeated so many debates in Jefferson City.”
