LA Times: In Absentia Orders Issued Against Thousands of Kids

The LA Times reports that approximately 7,o00 children have been deported as a result of not appearing for their court hearings.  The article includes the perspective of immigration advocates, who report that large numbers of their clients never received notice of their court hearings. According to the article, “In interviews and court documents, attorneys said notices sometimes arrived late, at the wrong address or not at all. In some cases, children were ordered to appear in a court near where they were initially detained, rather than where they were living, attorneys said.”
