Fundraiser for Volunteer with No More Deaths
Friends
Please consider helping to fund this volunteer trip for one of my students, Anna Manuel, at USF School of Law. Deaths at the border continuing to occur because of Operation Gatekeeper, and the life-saving work of No More Deaths literally is vital to the survival of migrants crossing the border.
Dear Friends,
Between 2000 and 2015, more than 6,000 people died in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands; presumably, however, many more have in fact perished, their bodies yet to be discovered.
This summer I will once again volunteer with No More Deaths, an organization whose mission is to end death and suffering on the U.S.-Mexico border through civil initiative–the conviction that people of conscience must work openly and in community to uphold fundamental human rights. Their work embraces faith-based principles for immigration reform and focuses on the following themes:
• Direct aid that extends the right to provide humanitarian assistance
• Witnessing and responding
• Consciousness raising
• Global movement building
• Encouraging humane immigration policy.
I will be camping in the AZ desert and helping to provide water, food, and medical supplies to men, women, and children traveling with little more than the shirts on their backs. I’m fundraising for the volunteer fees which will cover those aid supplies and the flight to Tucson.
While the root causes of this phenomenon are also a part of my work, I regard visceral humanitarian aid work vital to a genuine career in human rights law.
Anything helps! Please let me know if you have any questions about what I’m doing!
Lots of Love,
Anna Manuel
