Julianne Hing in The Nation: “For Trump, Cruelty is the Point”

Julianne Hing writes in The Nation about the Trump Administration’s immigration policies, and sums those policies up in the following title phrase:  “For Trump, Cruelty is the Point.”  Hing writes about the Administration’s practice of separating parents from children at the border, the attacks on the State of California’s laws that seek to protect immigrants, and immigration enforcement actions at courthouses and other public places. 

Asserts Hing:  “Without needing to change any laws, the White House has used the threat of gang violence and the need to protect national security as pretexts for draconian immigration policies. Yet the real aim has always been something else: to inflict maximum suffering as a means of pushing out unwanted newcomers as well as those whose extended presence in the country may threaten white supremacy.”
