Third state denounces Trump’s Census question
From Immigrants List:
On Friday, Maryland became the third state to block the citizenship question to the 2020 Census.
The ruling made by Judge George J. Hazel of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland in Greenbelt, found that the Trump administration violated administrative law. Along with California and New York, the rulings made by these three states will likely be appealed to the Supreme Court.
Trump and his allies are pushing to include the controversial question: “Is this person a citizen of the United States?”
It is clear they do not think immigrants, either documented or undocumented, are real people, and are doing everything they can to not count them. The GOP’s flagrant attempt to use scare tactics to undermine the immigrant communities puts our families, friends, and neighbors at a severe disadvantage. Not being counted means more immigrant communities with less access to government resources which include SNAP and Medicaid and little to no say in our democracy.
The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that 16 million people were not counted in the 2010 Census.
