Refugee puppet travels 5,000 miles in search of understanding

The New York Times Sunday edition had a visually stunning account of “The Walk.” The theater arts project consisted of a 12-foot tall, 9-year-old Syrian puppet travelling 5,000 miles to find her mother. The girl, Amal (hope in Arabic), trekked 5,000 miles from Turkey to Britain looking for her and made over 140 stops in eight countries. Her stops included refugee camps, the Royal Opera House in London, and spontaneous meetings in unsuspecting villages where she interacted with ordinary people.

This is one of several art projects designed to bring humanity to the refugee experience.
