From The Bookshelves: Bus Station Stories by Michelle Rumbaut

Michelle Rumbaut has been a regular volunteer at the San Antonio Greyhound bus station since 2016. As a member of the Interfaith Welcome Coalition (IWC), she has greeted thousands of migrants who have passed through the bus station.

In Bus Station Stories: Borders and Crossroads, A journal of migrant journeys, Rumbaut compiles the “journal entries” she has written over the years about her volunteer work. She documents what she has seen, the people she has met, and the experiences they have shared with her.

From the introduction to the book:

The situation at the bus station has changed continuously over the years, reflecting the levels of danger and hopelessness in different countries and our own nation’s shifting policies. But the core stories remain the same, that of desperate and courageous people risking all for the dream of a new life.
