The Legal, Political and Social Landscape
Date: Monday, April 8, 2024
12:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.
The Rutgers Law School Center for Immigrant Justice, the Rutgers Race and the Law Review, the Immigrant Rights Collective, the Immigrant Rights Clinic, and the Rutgers Institute for Professional Education invite you to a symposium, DACA More Than Ten Years Later: The Legal, Political and Social Landscape, on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 12 to 5:45 pm. It will be held in-person at Rutgers Law School in Newark, New Jersey, and on Zoom.
This symposium provides the latest information about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy and examines its legal, political, and social landscape. It will begin with a screening of the documentary, United We Are Dreaming, which will be followed by remarks by a DACA student (and current law student) featured in the film.
Panels will include DACA recipients and other voices in the national conversation on immigration and DACA recipients, including Bernard Bell (Rutgers), Stephen Lee (UC Irvine Law), Jason Hernandez (Rutgers, Rutgers Immigrant Community Assistance Project), Sofia Lopez Franco (UCLA Law, Center for Immigration Law and Policy), and Yolanda Vazquez (Cincinnati and Visiting Professor of Law at Rutgers).
The symposium will culminate with a distinguished lecture by Marielena Hincapie, former Executive Director of the National Immigration Law Center.
