Trump says the U.S. is ‘like a garbage can for the world’ as he dials up immigration rhetoric

Campaign 2024 will be remembered as having the harshest language on immigration from major party candidates in the last 100 years, from false claims that Haitians are eating pets to claims reminiscent of Hitler that immigrants are “poisoning” the blood of the nation. 

Now, NBC News reports that former President Donald Trump said today that the United States is “like a garbage can” for the rest of the world because of its border policies during a rally in Tempe, Arizona.

“They unleashed an army and of migrant gangs waging a campaign of violence,” said Trump. “We’re a dumping ground. We’re like a garbage can for the world.”
