Judge blocks Trump administration’s effort to bar Harvard from enrolling international students

NPR reports that Harvard can continue enrolling international students after a judge issued a preliminary injunction yesterday. For now, the Trump administration’s efforts to revoke the university’s ability to enroll students on international visas have been halted. Federal district judge voiced concerns that the government was attempting to prevent foreign students from enrolling despite her earlier order blocking the administration’s planned actions. The White House told NPR that the Trump administration should decide if universities can issue student visas, not judges.

According to NPR, “[m]ore than 1 million international students are enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities and bring about $43 billion to the U.S. economy annually. University leaders are worried as international applications are down compared to last year.”
