Adriel Orozco of American Immigration Council: Analysis of New Temporary Immigration Judge Appointments

Adriel Orozco of the American Immigration Council has an interesting analysis of the new immigration judge appointments by the Trump administration.

As Orozco writes: “This week, the Department of Defense (DOD) approved sending up to 600 military lawyers to serve as temporary immigration judges—which would double the total number of immigration judges at the Department of Justice. This is yet another example of the Trump administration diverting military resources away from national security and instead toward its mass deportation agenda.”

When the firings of more than 100 permanent immigration judges by the Trump administration are also considered, the addition of 600 military lawyers will begin to eclipse the regular judge corps.

Orozco warns that “[t]emporary immigration judges could be more susceptible to political influence than permanent judges.”
