In Australia, the Department of Homeland Affairs is taking steps toward privatizing visa processing for low-risk visas. The UK already privatizes visa processing. The move raises concerns about government accountability familiar to the US context of privatized detention facilities and prisons, as Cesar Garcia Hernandez and others have pointed out (Germany and Australia also privatize detention facilities). Could the US be next?
