Here is a story by Stephen Magagnini about the new Mexican consul general, Liliana Ferrer, in Sacramento. Ferrer grew up as the only Mexican student at her high school in Sacramento while her father, Carlos Ferrer, served as Mexico’s consul general in Sacramento. She is following in her father’s footsteps as consul general during a critical time in Mexico-U.S. relations.
President Donald Trump has called for the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants and proudly painted Mexican immigrants as “bad hombres” prone to crime.
The new consul general says that she plans to protect the 1 million Mexicans living in her 24-county jurisdiction in California.
Earlier this week, Ferrer hosted an elegant reception for the community at the consulate offices in Scramento. California Governor Jerry Brown was in attendance.
