Haitians Wait at U.S.-Mexico Border
Haitians have been amassing at the U.S.-Mexico border for months, seeking entry into the United States, NPR reports. Many have come to the U.S. border via Brazil, a country where Haitians found work after the 2010 earthquake but which has now slipped into a recession.
While hundreds of Haitians wait at the border for admission, immigration agents are only taking three appointments a day because most applicants will be put immediately into detention, and there are no open bed at present.
