Military Contractors Hope to Profit from More Border Enforcement
Earlier this week, ImmigrationProf blogged about the deaths on the border resulting from increased enforcement along the U.S./Mexico border. The deaths continue even though (1) the undocumented population in the United States has declined with the tight jobs market, (2) immigration detentions (often by private contractors) are at all-time highs, (3) apprehensions are down, and (4) removals are record levels. Still, Eric Lipton of the New York Times reports that, with military conflicts ending in Iraq and Afghanistan, military contractors are hoping to move into the lucrative border enforcement market with increased enforcement a distinct possibility of Congress enacts comprhensive immigration reform.
