ImmigrationProf has learned that the Board of Trustees of Stanford University, acting on the recommendation of the Law School faculty, has promoted Jayashri Srikantiah to the rank of Professor of Law. Jayashri began her service at Stanford in 2004, coming from her position as Associate Legal Director of the ACLU of Northern California and a staff attorney at the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project. As the founder and director of Stanford’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, Jayashri and her students have represented scores of immigrant survivors of domestic violence and immigrants facing removal because of past criminal convictions. The clinic has also conducted multi-modal advocacy—including impact litigation, community outreach, public education, and policy advocacy—on behalf of a broad range of immigration non-profits, on issues ranging from immigration detention to protections for immigrant survivors of domestic violence. Jayashri is widely regarded as an extraordinary clinical teacher and scholar.
