News from Sacramento, CaliforniaSome cities, including New York City, issue identifications to residents, including undocumented immigrants.  It facilitates daily matters, such as opening a bank account, entering public buildings, and the like.  The California Legislature is considering the expansion of eligibility for a state-issued identification card for all Californians regardless of immigration status.

California’s AB 1766, is known as “California ID for All.”  It has already passed the state Assembly and is now heading to to the Senate floor for a vote.  If passed, California would be the first state to offer a state identification to undocumented immigrants.

This legislation builds on California’s law passed almost a decade ago that allows undocumented immigrants to be eligible for driver licenses.
