“The Disillusionment of a Young Biden Official” by Jonathan Blitzer for The New Yorker

A new article for The New Yorker magazine by Jonathan Blitzer traces Andrea Flores and her efforts to undo Trump’s immigration policies, which she tells Blitzer were opposed both inside and outside the White House. Flores was appointed to a position as the director of border management on Biden’s National Security Council but has since resigned. Previously, Flores was the deputy director of immigration policy at the A.C.L.U.

The interesting piece provides an insider’s view to the challenges in shutting down the M.P.P. program while continuing to invoke Title 42. One story recounts Flores’ reaction when the Biden administration “invoked Title 42 yet again to break up a camp of Haitian asylum seekers who’d gathered under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas,” something that was covered previously on our blog, including here and here. As Flores recalled: “It was the first time in my eleven years of working on immigration policy that my closest friends in life called to ask, ‘Is this really what you want to be doing?’”
