Democrats send letter to Biden requesting immigration bill in second part of infrastructure package
Daniella Diaz for CNN reports that a group of Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to President Joe Biden on April 13 requesting that he prioritize legislation that would offer a pathway to citizenship to undocumented essential workers in the second part of his infrastructure package. Here is the letter.
The letter says that the Democrats want the President to include the Citizenship for Essential Workers Act, as a priority in the American Families Plan, the name of the second part of Biden’s two-part plan. The Act would provide a pathway to citizenship for more than 5 million undocumented essential workers. Under the legislation, an undocumented immigrant who works in child care, health care, agriculture, construction, emergency response, transportation, food, domestic work and other essential jobs would be able to apply for relief.
