Breaking news: Trump to deny green cards as part of covid19 response
Following President Trump’s tweet of a forthcoming immigration “pause,” the New York Times is reporting: “The president is expected on Tuesday evening to announce a temporary pause in the issuance of most green cards, a move that would close the United States off to tens of thousands of people seeking to join family members or accept employment during the crisis.” Responsive to objections from businesses, Trump is said to have backed off a plan to suspend guest workers, and Bloomberg is reporting that a draft of the order includes exemptions for temporary visa holders in food production, health care, and other essential work. The Wall Street Journal reports that the order does not apply to individuals already living in the US. UPDATE: The President says the order will be signed on Wednesday, April 22.
