Proponents of Arizona’s SB 1070 perpetuate the myth that “Phoenix is the number two kidnapping capital of the world.” Not only is this claim patently untrue, but it ignores two inconvenient facts.

First, unauthorized immigrants are themselves the primary victims of kidnappings in Phoenix. And secondly, violent crime rates in Arizona have been falling for years, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
