Louis Henkin RIP
International human rights law icon Louis Henkin , who was born in present-day Belarus and immigrated to the United States in 1923, passed away earlier this week. Harold Koh has a stirring tribute that Henkin’s “passion for the rights of aliens and refugees in The Constitution and United States Sovereignty: A Century of “Chinese Exclusion” and Its Progeny, 100 Harv. L. Rev. 853 (1987). As a framer of the Refugee Convention and U.S. member of the Human Rights Committee of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, he fought for human rights not just in the academy, but in the trenches.”
