Immigrant of the Day: Carlos Roa

Carlos Roa, a student immigration advocate and blogger on Nuestras Voces Latinas, is our Immigrant of the Day.  Carlos is one of the original DREAM Walkers, four undocumented students who walked from Miami to Washington, D.C. last year to raise awareness for the DREAM Act.  The four left Miami on January 1, 2010 to embark on a 1500-mile journey to our nation’s capitol, proclaiming that “because of our immigration status, we’ve spent our childhoods in fear and hiding, unable to achieve our full potential. We walk in order to share our stories and to call on our leaders to fix the system that forces people like us into the shadows, stripping us of the opportunity to participate meaningfully in society.”

Carlos currently works with Presente.org, which currently is working to raise awareness about the “broken” U.S. immigration system.
