National Council of La Raza calls off boycott of Arizona

National Council of La Raza announced on Friday that it is calling off its boycott of Arizona imposed in 2010 after the state enacted Arizona S.B. 1070. Some critics had called for a boycott of Major League Baseball’s All-Star game this July in Arizona, but the game was played there. Last spring, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit invalidated the core immigration provisions of the Arizona law. The state has sought review in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Although many states enacted copycat laws, NCLR declared the boycott a success but it now was imposing a hardship on the workers, businesses and organizations it aimed to help.
