Newt Gingrich: Civil War Fiction (at Least if the South Wins) Buff

Newt
Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is something of a Civil War buff. In Gettysburg: A Novel of the Civil War, Gingrich and William R. Forstchen offer a fictional account of Confederate General Robert E. Lee defeating the Union army at Gettysburg. Last month, Gingrich, with two co-authors, published The Battle of the Crater: A Novel, a famous episode of the Petersburg seige (one that was painful for Union forces) near the end of the Civil War. Gingrich also published two other books of Civil War fiction, including one that had Lee defeating Union General U.S. Grant. Gingrich has written many books, including two on the Revolutionary War.

In the end, I am not sure what to make of Gingrich’s fantasies about the Civil War. I do know that I never spent much time imagining Confederate victories.
