Free & Open to the Public
UC Berkeley Law School Tuesday, August 28, 12:30-2 p.m.
For much of the 20th century, California was at the forefront of eugenic ideology and practices in the United States, performing the highest number of eugenic sterilizations – some 20,000 procedures in private and public institutions across the state. Today, California is a leader in research and services related to human genomics and assisted reproductive technologies. Speakers will consider the history of eugenics in California and explore the continuities/discontinuities and uses/abuses of genetic ideas and practices.
