California Governor Brown Disappoints in Vetoing Bill that Would Have Allowed Lawful Permanent Residents to Serve on Juries
Gov. Jerry Brown today vetoed legislation that would have allowed legal immigrants to be eligible for jury service. His veto message said that “[j]ury service, like voting, is quintiessentially a prerogative and respoinsibility of citizenship. This bill would permit lawful permanent residents who are not citizens to serve on a jury. I don’t think that’s right.”
