Educators for Fair Consideration: Training Undocumented Lawyers
As previously reported on ImmigrationProf, the California Legislature, in response to the much-publicized case of Sergio Garcia, passed a law making undocumented immigrants eligible for admission to the California bar and to practice law. This Los Angeles Times story profiles the Educators for Fair Consideration in San Francisco, which provides a training program that began in 2009 on the theory that aspiring attorneys would benefit from being exposed to immigration law even if they ultimately could not be admitted to the bar. The trainees now may be eligible to practice law in California.
