Family Detention Center In Texas Is “Utterly Unnecessary”

The new family detention facility in Dilley, Texas is big. And expensive. As AILA attorney Christina Brown told the Huffington Post, it’s also “utterly unnecessary.”

Brown notes that many of the families housed at Dilley will raise asylum claims. These families do not pose a danger to the community and, as Royce Bernstein Murray of the National Immigration Justice Center pointed out, they could be monitored by more cost-effective means such as ankle bracelets.
