Marco Rubio for President !?!?
Joining Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Hillary Clinton, Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for President. Think Progress and Politico look at Rubio’s changing position on immigration. He at one time sponsored immigration reform with a path to legalization for certain undocumented immigrants and later supported increased border enforcement before comprehensive reform. Rubio has stated his opposition to President Obama’s 2014 expanded deferred action program.
Rubio announced his 2016 presidential run Monday at Freedom Tower in Florida, a center that offered relief to Cuban refugees from Fidel Castro’s regime between 1962 and 1974.
Some political analysts believe that Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants from the Latino-heavy districts of Florida, could appeal to Latinos. But, in the past two years, Rubio has swung wildly between supporting a permanent fix to bring the country’s 11.2 million undocumented immigrants into the formal American society and berating DREAMers. Rubio’s “tap dance” comes in part from a diverse potential constituency that includes Tea Party supporters who helped put him in the Senate in 2010, and Latinos, the fastest-growing voter electorate.
