Republican Candidates Spar on Immigration
In the much-anticipated Republican Presidential debate last night, the candidates sparred over immigration. There were no real surprises here. There was tough talk from the candidate’s on immigration enforcement and Donald Trump refused to back down from his controversial comments about the Mexican government sending criminals to the United States. A number of candidates, Ted Cruz in particular, sprinkled into various comments references to an amnesty for undocumented immigrants and President Obama’s unconstitutional executive actions. Some observers saw Senator Marco Rubio as the clear winner.
In the preliminary debate between the candidates currently lagging in the polls, immigration also came up, with the candidates, to use the Wall Street Journal’s words, taking “muscular positions against illegal immigration.”
