Toddlers Can Understand Immigration Law, IJ Claims
If you don’t have kids, you might not know what three and four looks like. Here it is – car seats, helping hands, likely potty trained but not yet reading. Lots of naps.
The Washington Post has an absolutely shocking story this morning.
Jack H. Weil, “a longtime immigration judge who is responsible for training other judges” said this in a sworn deposition:
“I’ve taught immigration law literally to 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds… It takes a lot of time. It takes a lot of patience. They get it. It’s not the most efficient, but it can be done.”
I’m going to put that in bold because just having the quote is not enough.
Oh, and the WP points out that this was no throw-away comment. Weil repeated this claim twice, saying: “I’ve told you I have trained 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds in immigration law… You can do a fair hearing. It’s going to take you a lot of time.’’
WHAT THE HELL (edited for your delicate sensibilities from my original response) is the universal outcry from anyone, anywhere, who has ever interacted with a three or four year old.
