Hundreds of Migrant Teens Are Being Held Indefinitely in Locked Detention
What happens to migrant kids who make the journey to the U.S. without their parents? Many are fleeing criminal gangs in Central America and they may be eligible for asylum. Most spend about a month in a government shelter, before they’re placed with a relative or a sponsor to wait for their day in immigration court. But hundreds of kids are being locked up for months — even years. We’ve been digging into this story to follow some of those kids, and their families, collaborating with Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX. Reporter: Tyche Hendricks.
