2014 Yearbook of Immigrant Statistics: Number of Immigrants Annually Remains Stable, Immigrants by Region of the World

Dhs

Jennifer Koh posted a link to the 2014 Yearbook of Immigration Statistics, which was recently released by the Department of Homeland Security.    Over the next week or so, I will highlight some of the data that I find interesting in the 2014 Yearbook.  Yesterday, I looked at the removal numbers.

Table 3 includes data on “Persons Obtaining Lawful Permanent Resident Status by Region and Country of Birth:  Fiscal Years 2005 to 2014.”

The number of total immigrants for the 2010-14 time period has been about 1 million annually:

2010        1,042,625

2011        1,052, 040

2012        1,031,631

2013        990,553

2014        1,016,516

In 2014, by region

Africa                    98,413

Asia                       430,508

Europe                    53,266

North America       324,354

Oceania                    5,112

South America        73,715

Unknown                    1,150

There are no real surprises here.  Two things jumped out at me:  (1) the relatively few immigrants from Europe; and (2) that immigration from Asia — and substantially — exceeded that from North America.
