The End of Private Prisons?

“The Justice Department plans to end its use of private prisons after officials concluded the facilities are both less safe and less effective at providing correctional services than those run by the government,” is the first sentence of this shocking WaPo story.

The Justice Department memo, which you can read in full here, pertains to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. We’ll have to see how and whether the Department of Homeland Security responds to these allegations given its extensive reliance on private immigration detention facilities.
