A Radio News Report on Adelanto Detention Facility, the Largest Private Detention Dacility in California
This week KPCC: Southern California Public Radio aired a three-part story on the Adelanto Detention Facility, the largest privately-run site in California. Since opening five years ago, there have been at least three deaths and questions raised about health care, legal access and treatment of detainees. ICE says it has put in place reforms. KPCC spent over a year on this project, seeking public records, tracking down detainees, and reporting from inside the facility.
The U.S. government is currently reviewing the use of private contractors in immigrant detention. It is a critical time to bring the public’s attention to this important issue.
