Trump Allegedly Consults With Anti-Immigrant Groups

It’s Saturday. I don’t know how you started your day, but mine began with a heart-to-heart with my eleven-year-old son about how Trump objectifies women and why that’s unacceptable (and why all those girls in his class who voted for Trump in a straw poll are voting against themselves). I did this without uttering the word p***y and being really, really angry about the fact that there is a national leader with a genuine shot at the presidency who used that term casually.

Deep breath.

Although I’ve more than had my fill of Trump for the day, there’s some news you should be aware of. NumbersUSA (led by Roy Beck) and the Center for Immigration Studies (led by Mark Krikorian) have told told Reuters that they consulted with either Trump or senior members of his campaign over the past year.

The Trump camp has not confirmed these statements. But it’s not hard to believe their truth.

As Fortune characterizes it, there has been a significant “convergence of ideas” between Trump’s proclamations and the positions of NumbersUSA and CIS. For example,

In early August, NumbersUSA shared a 10-point immigration with the Trump campaign. Of the 10 points, six were echoed by Trump in a major immigration speech on Aug. 31.

The news is hardly surprising given Trump’s consistently hard-line stance on immigration. But it does shed light on who the consultants behind the scenes really are.
