New York Ranks 2nd In Immigrant Population, Following California
Law 360 reports that nearly 4.4 million immigrants call New York state home, making it the state with the second highest immigrant population after California, according to a report issued by the Office of the New York State Comptroller.
Immigrants represent 22 percent of the state’s population of more than 19 million, much higher than the nation’s immigration population of 13 percent — or 41 million — of the total U.S. population, and with their robust employment rate in a number of various industries, hey are helping to maintain and grow the state’s diverse workforce and strengthen its economy, the report, issued on Wednesday, said.
New York trailed California, which has an immigrant population of nearly 10.3 million, representing more than 25 percent of the state’s population.
