Number of international students in U.S. colleges at an all-time high, and California is their top destination

Rosanna Xia for the Los Angeles Times reports that a record high of more than 1 million foreign students came to the United States for higher education last school year. Four of the top 20 institutions that welcomed them were in California, according to a new report. The four:

1. USC (13,340 international students)

2. UCLA (11,513)

3. UC San Diego

4. UC Berkeley

5. UC Irvine

The number of foreign students in California was 10.5% higher than the previous academic year. USC had the second largest number of international students in the country.

The top universities hosting international students:

1. NYU

2. USC

3. Arizona State University

4. Columbia University

5. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

6. Northeastern University

7. UCLA

8. Purdue

9. Boston University

10. University of Washington
